“Taking Care of Home”: An Earth Day keynote speaker and awards ceremony

Our species, one among millions, is degrading the conditions for all life on this beautiful planet. As the human population swells and the power of our technology increases, we are consuming resources and disrupting natural systems at an accelerating pace. Because of this excess, Earth’s poorest people are suffering now, and rich and poor alike will suffer in future generations. Scott Russell Sanders, author of A Conservationist Manifesto and twenty other books of fiction and nonfiction, will speak about how we might restore a balance between our way of life and the way of nature.

Scott Russell Sanders is the author of over 20 books of fiction and nonfiction and has been widely celebrated for his contributions to literature and the environment. Sanders has been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, is an honorary member of the Association for the Study of Literature and the Environment (ASLE), frequently serves as a faculty member for the Bread Loaf Environmental Writers’ Conference, and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. Sanders writes critically, thoughtfully, and lovingly about the human relationship to the natural world.
