Apply to Be An Intro to University Life

Peer Guides (PGs) support the transition of first-semester students into the learning community at TCU through their role as mentor, resource, and role model in the Introduction to University Life course. PGs support the course Instructor and help facilitate discussions and experiences that are fundamental to student success in college, such as understanding the purpose(s) of college, goal-setting, critical thinking and study skills, time-management, identifying campus resources, academic and personal integrity, encountering diverse people and perspectives, and managing stress, as examples.

Black Poetry

The Black Matter is Life: Poetry for Engagement and Overcoming

Join The Black Matter Is Life for “Emphatic Affirmations” on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 6:00PM via Zoom. This event is moderated by TCU School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) Dean, Reginald Wilburn, and Sonya Sanchez will be the featured poet. Sanchez is an American poet, writer, and professor. She was a leading figure in the Black Arts Movement and has written over a dozen books of poetry, as well as short stories, critical essays, plays, and children’s books. This event will deconstruct four poems while centering conversations within the context of the African American literary tradition, their cultural heritage, the traditions they encompassed, and the relevance this tradition has to us today. The series will also explore the question, “Why does African American Poetry matter?”
